Trust: How Customers Treat Ads vs Organic Results
"Running Google Ads improves your organic rankings." No. Google has been explicit for years: ad spend does not influence organic results. Separate systems. (Ads help SEO only indirectly - through keyword data and exposure.)
"SEO is free." Free clicks after the ranking is earned; very real money to earn it. That's not a flaw - it's the definition of building an asset.
"Ads stop when you stop paying, so they're a waste." Rent isn't a waste when you need a roof tonight. Ads are wasted only when they're run badly - and "badly" has a specific checklist (Section 11) you can now audit yourself.
"Nobody clicks ads." A minority share of clicks on research searches - and a decisive share on urgent, commercial ones. "Nobody" is doing a lot of dishonest work in that sentence.
"We tried both. Neither worked." In nearly every account we audit, "SEO didn't work" means thin content and junk links, and "ads didn't work" means boosting posts or broad-match bleeding on job-seekers. The channels work. The execution didn't - and now you know how to tell the difference.
"AI killed SEO." AI cites SEO. See Section 14.

Which is better for local businesses - SEO or Google Ads? +
Local SEO first, almost always: map-pack rankings move in weeks, "near me" intent converts ferociously, and reviews compound. Ads join for urgent-service niches (emergencies click ads) or when map competition is entrenched.
